Maybe it's the 70% coverage of the Earth. Maybe it's a longing for a time when airplanes weren't our means of transportation. Maybe it's because I'm sitting at home with a foot and a half of snow coming down outside. For whatever reason, this week, I was moved to take a look at the five best ocean adventures on film. So, here they are in chronological order.

NOTE: This became the idea after my wife suggested a five best adventure films and I wanted to get more specific. Thanks honey!

  1. For this one I have my own pick, and it would be The Poseidon's Adventure (the 1972, not the failed 2006 version, of course). I first watched it many years ago and it still stays with me as one of the very best movie about human survival.

  2. Yeah - that was on my original list that was just out of memory, before researching a bit. It was between "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," and though "Poseidon" is probably the better movie, I think I just wanted to remind everybody that, at one point, this "Pirates" franchise wasn't a pile of crap.

  3. I agree. I love the first Pirate movie. I think it was a lot of fun, especially with Depp's invention of the flamboyant Jack Sparrow. If it hadn't for him, the movie would only be mediocre at best.
