Here's the trailer for the upcoming film Rock of Ages:
Good Decisions
Well, it's got a pretty stellar cast, for the most part. I love Tom Cruise when he plays against type - his best work is easily in Magnolia and Collateral. Throw in Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, and Bryan Cranston, and you can pretty much get me there regardless. It's a pretty popular musical on Broadway with some pretty awesome music, so there's a good chance that, at the very least, it will be a box office success.
Bad Decisions
Julianne Hough would not be my "got to" actress for really anything. I didn't see the Footloose remake, so I'm in no place to criticize, but I really just don't buy her yet. Russell Brand has become a bit of a loose cannon as of late and I'm not sure if I'm in his corner yet, either. My guess is this will fall into Mamma Mia territory - it will only be tolerable if everyone can sing, because there's no story (unfortunately, Pierce Brosnan couldn't sing). Oh, and the writers are Justin Theroux ("Mr. Jennifer Aniston" - he did co-write Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2, though), Chris D'Arienzo (Rock of Ages songbook), and Allan Loeb (Just Go With It, The Dilemma). A murderers row, right?
Jury Still Out
Two major things:

Jury Still Out
Two major things:
- Adam Shankman is directing. He did a good job with Hairspray and The Wedding Singer, but he's also behind The Pacifier and Bedtime Stories. You be the judge.
- The lead actor isn't really Cruise - it's a newcomer named Diego Boneta, who hasn't done much more than tween-centered TV up until now.
